Valerie Newman is a singer-songwriter recognized for her powerful vocals and insightful lyrics. Her music spans a spectrum, ranging from slow, calming, and expressive songs to pure rock and roll energy. Valerie began her musical journey singing with her first band, Spotless, where she honed her stage presence and learned to collaborate on songwriting. Later, she met Cara Keane, beginning a lifelong musical bond that led to performances with bands such as Cara Keane and the Disclaimers and Cara Keane and the Vinyl Dropouts, where she gained invaluable experience from top local musicians. Valerie has also sung with The Tribe, a musical collective filled with talented Central MA artists. Currently, she performs vocals and rhythm guitar for Swaying Trees, showcasing original songs written by Valerie Newman, Reed Brewer, Sam Femino, and Jim Clapham. Over the years, she has written two albums, The Path and All Along the Way, and has recorded multiple singles at Wachusett Recording with producer Mike Harmon. More recently, Valerie worked with producer Matt Marcel at Marcel's Shred Shed, recording several singles and the EP, Seasons Change. She now shares live music throughout Central MA with her band Swaying Trees, her duo Cara & Val, and also performs energetic solo sets.
